Space Invaders 2007

At the greenhouse, Guernsey

Space Invaders was a time-based collaborative installation project with Artist Mary Thompson. The installation ran for 5 weeks at thegreenhouse Gallery in Guernsey. Space Invaders was an exploration of space, drawing, interaction and the ephemeral nature of art.

Speakers were connected to vegetable steamers, these were linked to microphones located inside Mary's drawing machines. As the drawing machines began to move, so did the steamers as the various noises created vibrations as they channeled through the blades of the steamers. These vibrations gradually caused the delicate micro-epic structures to begin to collapse. Mary's drawing machines were wired up to a central power point that was turned on and off by people walking into the room and triggering a motion sensor.
